Welcome to this web site dedicated to the Golf GTI Convertible, a true modern classic. Introduced to the world at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1979 the Gold Convertible became an instant success after is subsequent launch in Europe in July of 1979 selling almost 12,000 in 1979.

With their renowned engineering VW changed overnight the old perceptions of open top driving by introducing a finely engineered convertible. Their engineers and designers achieved what very few manufactures had done previously (or to this day) and transformed a production saloon to a convertible maintaining the original design qualities, ease of use, all round practicality and high quality. The fact the so many survive to this day is simply because of the quality of the engineering that went into their design.

With a production run of 14 years almost 390,000 vehicles were sold worldwide with many variations including of course one that carried the iconic GTI badge.
